First VGT2 Image (other images)
| | On May 4th 2002 at 1.31 AM, Ariane 4 successfully placed the SPOT 5 Earth observation satellite into its temporary orbit. SPOT 5, with onboard VEGETATION 2, will reach its final orbit after a controlled phase lasting several days. The first VEGETATION 2 images were received on May 6th and confirm the perfect quality of the VEGETATION 2 instrument. The first VEGETATION 2 image released to the wider public was taken on 09 May 2002 and covers India. Additional sample images of SPOT VEGETATION 2 will be released soon. After a commissioning phase of several months, it is expected that VEGETATION 2 becomes fully operational in September 2002. In the meantime VEGETATION 1 continues to be the nominal system. | |
