Preaching Mark's Gospelat the Millennium

 


This course will offer an in-depth look at the earliest gospel, usingsociological, narrative and popular education approaches.  We willparticularly pay attention to the task of preaching Mark in the Year Bcycle, strategizing how to get a whole congregation involved in the processof reading and reflecting.  We also will look at the historical momentof the millennium through the lens of Mark, specifically touching on thetheme of Jubilee economics.  Students will use Say to This Mountain:Mark's Story of Discipleship (Orbis, 1996).

Co-author of Say to This Mountain (1996), ChedMyers also has written Who Will Roll Away the Stone? (Orbis, 1994),and Binding the Strong Man (Orbis, 1988).  He teaches the Bible witha view to social transformation.  He is a contributing editor forSojourners and The Witness magazines, and has led workshops and retreatsfor Pax Christi, Servant Leadership Schools, and Kirkridge, among others.
