Frances Long has dedicated her law practice to issues affecting the elderly and disabled for over eighteen years. She practices in the area of elder law, focusing on Medical Assistance planning, disability planning, estate planning for small estates and probate.

Frances was co-chair of the Elder Law Section during its first two years of existence (1990-1992) and served as a member of the Governing Council from 1990-2000. She also acts as chair of its Medical Assistance Committee and is a member of its Legislative Committee. She received the Mary Alice Gooderl Award in 1995 for her contribution to the practice of elder law in Minnesota.

Frances did her undergraduate study at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated first in her class from Hamline University School of Law in 1982.

She is a member of the Elder Law, Probate and Trust and Real Property sections of the Minnesota State Bar Association. She is also a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and Minnesota Women Lawyers. She is a frequent lecturer for Minnesota Continuing Legal Education as well as community organizations in the areas of Medical Assistance and disability planning, advance decisions regarding health care, nursing home issues, long-term care alternatives, and surrogate management of financial and personal matters. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Minnesota Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She has been named as a Leading Minnesota Attorney and as a Super Lawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics for more than five years and as one of the leading fifty women lawyers in Minnesota.
