Giving them education or fitting them with calipers and appliances is not the end of the story. It is only a beginning. It is not enough to give them training in vocational skills. We have to make them competitive with the rest in the world. For many it is the very survival.  

But empower them how? Empower them with what? What does it mean to them for their day to day life?  

We at Amar Seva Sangam have adopted more than 300 villages in a remote hilly area in south India. Lack of proper economic development and poverty looms large in the people daily life. If one is physically disadvantaged the life is even more challenging. Amar seva sangam is embarked upon an innovative project where in the people among themselves generate resources and deal with the needs of the disabled. We are forming village level forums, which forms self-help groups with disabled members enrolling other members. There are more than 4800 persons with disabilities in these villages and so far we have formed several village forums and have created a modern resource center for them in 28 acres of land. From delivery of services we are now in the process of empowering them.  

They will be the deciders of their needs. They will be given the source for funds. They will manage their own community funds. They will have their own community workers. Amar seva sangam will be their resource center.  

This means employment for the disabled persons. It means access to rehabilitation. This means economic liberation. This means they will be their own masters and contributors to the society. They can live with self-esteem and integrate with the society. Amar seva sangam will be the facilitator.  

This is the project that is changing the face of this part of the world. This is the PROJECT OF THIS NEW MILLENNIUM that is going to revolutionise if made successful.
