Women & Smoking
Tobacco use during pregnancy increases the risk of suchcomplications as stillbirth, low birth weights, premature delivery,miscarriage, and sudden infant death syndrome. Women who smoke may alsoexperience reduced fertility, increased menstrual disorders, earlier onset ofmenopause, and an increased risk of cervical cancer.
ERROR MSGWomen who smoke and use birth control pills are especially vulnerable,particularly after age 30. They are 39 times more likely to suffer from strokethan nonsmokers who do not use the pill, and are at higher risk of contactingother circulatory diseases as well.
discount hotels in LagosThere seems to be little or no difference in the likelihood of becoming addicted to nicotine. Women usually smoke cigarettes with lower nicotine content, smoke fewer cigarettes per day, and inhale less deeply than men. From these findings it would appear that women are less addicted.
However, women are less successful than men in quitting, and. women have higher relapse rates after they quit. Nicotine replacement treatment with gum or patch works better for men than women.
Even though women on the average consume less nicotine than men they need more help in quitting smoking. Women smokers should be encouraged to get assistance.
